If you find yourself wondering whether or not you are suffering from bipolar disorder, feel free to take a bipolar test or bi polar quiz online, but don’t kid yourself that an online bi polar quiz should work as a real diagnosis.

A real bipolar test involves a psychiatrist conducting thorough interviews with you, as well as your family and friends. Bi polar disorder is not an easy thing to diagnose, and twelve questions on a website are far from being an accurate, thorough bi polar disorder test. However, if you are worried that you might suffer from bi polar disorder would like a starting point, we can provide a few questions to ask yourself. If you answer in the positive to more than one or two of them, you may want to consider talking to a professional in the field and looking into having a real diagnosis conducte:

Do you find yourself feeling on top of the world one day, but incredibly depressed the next, only to switch back to feelings of great confidence the day after that?

And by this, we don’t mean the normal mood shifts we all experience, or mood shifts with some tangible catalyst. Of course, if a loved one dies and you are depressed, that’s normal. If you get a promotion at work and you are ecstatic, that’s normal. We’re talking about extreme mood shifts with no legitimate cause.

Do you suffer from abnormal delusions, paranoia, or hallucinations?

Hallucinations are a sure sign of one of several things, and only a trained professional can really give you a qualified diagnosis. Note that hallucinations can often be a sign of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or various other mental illnesses, but they can also be a symptom of sleep deprivation or fatigue.

Do you often break out into tears or laughter without knowing why?

Manic and depressive episodes can strike fairly suddenly and without any apparent catalyst. If you feel your mood shift very suddenly, it may be a sign of a bipolar disorder.

Do your friends or family suspect that you are bipolar?

Often times, people with mental illness have trouble identifying it for themselves. Within the mind of a schizophrenic, for example, most of their delusions make perfect sense, no matter how odd they may seem to others. Don’t take the armchair diagnosis of an untrained acquaintance as the real deal, though. Just because someone says you’re bipolar does not mean you’re actually bipolar. This is especially true in the teen years for example, when hormones are running wild and creating crazy mood swings that seem like bi polar symptoms, but are, in fact, just part of growing up. However, if everyone you know is telling you that you show bi polar symptoms, it may be a good idea to talk to a professional for, well, professional diagnosis. Beyond clinical diagnosis in a psychiatrist’s chair, recently, experts have begun researching the possibility of a bipolar blood test, which, if successful, would help to reduce the risk of misdiagnosis, and wrongly administrated medication and treatment. The fact is that diagnosis of bipolar can be tricky, especially in milder cases. Often times what seems like bipolar disorder is just a person going through general feelings of boredom, or giving emotional responses that may seem unexpected, but which are actually logical when put into the correct context.

This isn’t to say that all bipolar diagnostics are false or faulty, just that the process can be, at times, inaccurate. If you do find yourself being diagnosed with a bipolar disorder, it’s a good idea to seek bipolar disorder treatments. If you don’t like the idea of medication, there are alternative therapeutic bipolar disorder treatments. Whichever treatment you choose, though, treating bipolar is important. Left unchecked, bipolar disorder can result in general malaise and inability to cope with day to day life, or even psychotic episodes.
